About Ridgeside

Welcome to Ridgeside, Tennessee, a charming and close-knit community nestled in the heart of Hamilton County in the southeastern United States. Though small in size, Ridgeside has a big heart — a place where neighbors know one another, generations grow up together, and Southern hospitality is felt in every corner.

Ridgeside is truly unique: it’s an enclave, which means it is completely surrounded by the vibrant city of Chattanooga, yet it maintains its own distinct character and identity. Our name comes from our picturesque setting on the eastern slope of Missionary Ridge, a gentle rise that gives the community its special outlook and name. Locally, many still refer to parts of the area by its historic neighborhood name, Shepherd Hills — a nod to the community that grew here long before modern growth took shape.

Ridgeside is located just a few miles east of downtown Chattanooga, making it the perfect blend of quiet residential charm and easy access to city amenities. With just under half a square kilometer of land, there’s no water within our city limits — but what we do have is beautiful tree-lined streets, lovingly cared-for homes, and that welcoming small-town feel that makes Ridgeside special.

Ridgeside Centennial Logo

The City of Ridgeside was chartered in 1925, marking 2025 it's 100th anniversary as an independent city. In honor of the city's centenial we enlisted the help of Carolyn Friebner-Mueller to create a new logo showcasing aspects of Ridgeside that we feel make it a special place to live. Carolyn is Founder and Creative Director of Dazu Creative based in Chattanooga, TN. Carolyn is also a native Ridgesider!
